Every year on 12 December, the world comes together to celebrate International Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day, a United Nations–designated day calling for “Health for All.” Since its establishment in 2017, UHC Day reminds us that everyone, everywhere should have access to quality, affordable health and care services — without financial hardship or social exclusion.
At the heart of the CARES Project (Caregivers Advancing Regulatory Environment and Skills) lies the same vision. Our work focuses on supporting the care workforce, strengthening well-being, and promoting digital and sustainable practices in the care sector. By equipping caregivers with better tools, knowledge, and mental health resources, we contribute to building resilient systems that make health and care accessible to all.
💚Why UHC Matters for the Care Sector
The care workforce is the foundation of universal health coverage. Nurses, caregivers, social workers, and community support professionals are essential links between individuals and health systems. However, care professionals often face long hours, emotional stress, and limited training opportunities. CARES addresses these challenges by promoting:
- Upskilling and reskilling through digital and green competencies.
- Improved well-being and mental health support for care professionals.
- Inclusive learning tools that help both formal and informal caregivers adapt to change.
These priorities directly align with the UHC2030 Global Movement and the World Health Organization’s call to invest in health and care workers to achieve “Health for All.”
🌍Our Commitment
CARES joins partners and global networks — including UHC2030 and the World Health Organization (WHO) — in reaffirming that universal health coverage starts with strong and supported care professionals. Our project promotes a future where quality care and well-being go hand in hand — not only for those receiving care, but also for those who deliver it.
💬 Because there is no universal health coverage without universal care.
